'New Mutants' release date, news: 'New Mutants' was pitched as a trilogy
Director Josh Boone may be a very busy man with the number of projects he's working on right now. But despite his busy schedule, Boone has already planned ahead and he has some interesting ideas for the "X-Men" spinoff film "New Mutants."
In an interview with Creative Screenwriting, Boone revealed that they pitched the project to producer Simon Kinberg and 20th Century Fox as a trilogy, and they even made a comic book to present their vision for "New Mutants."
"It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do," he stated.
"We brought it to Simon and he really liked it. We've been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I'm about to go location scout and we have a release date now," Boone added.
He also talked about his interest in bringing long-time "New Mutants" nemesis Demon Bear to the big screen. Boone said he and co-writer Knate Gwaltney were always fans of the comic book series when they were kids, and they loved Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz's run on the "New Mutants."
The first time Sienkiewicz worked on as an artist in the series was on "New Mutants" issue number 18, the first issue Demon Bear appeared in its true form. The character was an entity that haunted Danielle Moonstar early on in the series. She initially thought that it was only a recurring nightmare, but she soon found out that Demon Bear was real.
Production is reportedly going to start in Montreal, Canada in May next year. It is rumored that "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams will be portraying Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane, while Anya Taylor-Joy is allegedly going to play Illyana Rasputin aka Magik.
