NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath 'Praying' For Missing Florida Boys
NFL Hall of Fame athlete Joe Namath has said that he and others are "praying" for the safe recovery of two teens who recently went missing on a fishing trip off the Florida coast.
Namath, who played for the New York Jets, has offered a $100,000 reward for anyone with information on the whereabouts of 14-year-olds Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, who went missing on Friday after embarking on a fishing expedition off the coast of Florida, in the direction of the Bahamas.
The star former quarterback is reportedly the neighbor to the boys' families, and has spoken out in support of finding the teens.
"We just keep on praying, man," Namath told CNN affiliate WPTV in a recent interview. "It's hard, it's so hard, but we've got to believe in their wherewithal."
On Sunday, the boys' 19-foot fishing boat was discovered by the Coast Guard about 70 miles off of the Ponce de Leon Inlet. Officials have said that one orange life vest remained in the boat, although they are uncertain how many life vests the boat had when the boys first started out on their journey.
The U.S. Coast Guard told NBC News that it is anchoring the boat where it was found to aid in the search.
"This provides us an intelligent view of the currents in the area, which helps us dictate where we are going to put our personnel," Coast Guard Petty Officer Stephen Lehmann said in a statement. "Our priority is finding these boys."
