Nintendo NX release date news update: Multi-platform gaming console a possibility
There have been several rumors circulating over the internet suggesting that the upcoming Nintendo NX will come out as a hybrid home and mobile console. The rumors started after a job listing indicated that the company is looking for a lead Marketer for home consoles and a lead marketer for handhelds.
In a report by GamingBolt, the company's decision to hire these two positions signals a potential mobile and hybrid console in the market. According to reports, if the Nintendo NX is manufactured as a hybrid console, there is no need for two different marketing leads.
If rumors prove to be true, once the device hits the shelves, consumers might get a different NX console from what they expected.
Gaming fans should also take note of what the president of the company, Satoru Iwata, said in a discussion on the Nintendo NX.
"Home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems. Still, I am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated. In contrast, the number of form factors might increase. Currently, we can only provide two form factors because if we had three or four different architectures, we would face serious shortages of software on every platform," Iwata said.
Although a multi-platform console will certainly be revolutionary, these reports must be taken with a grain of salt until Nintendo decides to confirm them.
Meanwhile, as discovered by NeoGAF user called Disorientator, Nintendo has apparently filed a patent application, suggesting that the highly anticipated console will have detachable controllers. These latest reports support previous speculations saying that the device will feature removable gaming accessories.
Nintendo NX is scheduled to arrive in March 2017. As of the moment, the company has yet to provide concrete details with regard to its release date. However, fans are expecting Nintendo to make an official announcement soon.
