Nintendo Switch release date, news: Console better when docked?

Although Nintendo Switch can be used as a handheld device, fans should prepare for a significant shift in performance when it separates from the main console.

According to Digital Foundry, the clock speed of an undocked Nintendo Switch becomes 40 percent lower than when it is docked.

The site says that the available central processing unit (CPU) and memory controller speeds are not unchanged no matter the configuration, but the graphics processing unit (GPU) speeds somehow change.

The information provided by the tech publication shows that the CPU speeds remain 1020MHz whether it is docked or undocked. The memory controller speed of both is at 1331/1600MHz.

The GPU speeds of the Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, drops to 307.2MHz when played as a portable device while when docked, it goes up to 307.2/768MHz.

It is suggested that while this is the case for the Nintendo Switch, players are advised to just curb the games they play while using the console in a way that gameplay and visuals will be the same whether it is docked or not.

At the moment, this information is yet to be corroborated although Eurogamer seconds it. Either way, users are still advised to take this with a pinch of salt.

In other news, the Nintendo Switch exclusive indie title, "Seasons of Heaven," was showcased in a new trailer. It is believed to be one of the games to be released for the console. The trailer was released after the teaser for the game was leaked.

VG247 points out that the game does not necessarily make use of the full potential and power of the Nintendo Switch and advised fans not to form their judgment of the console based on this alone.

The Nintendo Switch has no release date yet, but it is expected to be out by March. Nintendo will show more of what it has to offer in January.
