NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti release date, news, specs rumors: Upcoming Pascal GPU to be the most powerful NVIDIA graphics card yet? Release expected early 2017
If the rumors are anything to go by, the consumers will see another powerful graphics card from NVIDIA early next year. It is expected that a new video card based on the OEM's current Pascal architecture will be known as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Many tech enthusiasts believe that the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be the most powerful graphics card yet from the company, perhaps even more powerful than the top-tier Pascal Titan X.
As reported by Yibada, NVIDIA's co-founder and CEO Jen Hsun Huang will be among the keynote speakers at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in January. With this, there are speculations that NVIDIA will also use this event as an opportunity to unveil the latest Pascal graphics card. The NVIDIA followers are hopeful that the CES 2017 will present something new for the gamers.
The core specifications of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti are quite impressive, making it more powerful than the previous Pascal-based graphics cards from NVIDIA. According to WCCF Tech, the GTX 1080 Ti will be boasting 3328 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR 5X memory, 1.6 GHz boost clock and 10.8 TFLOPS horsepower.
To those who are familiar with the Pascal Titan X's specs, they would know that the GTX 1080 Ti's rumored features are a bit lower in comparison. However, the upcoming GPU's GP102 processing unit has 50 percent greater computing power than GP104 of the earlier GeForce products. Moreover, it will be more than half the performance of GP104 in terms of CUDA cores, TMUS and ROPs, cache, and memory interface.
According to Digital Trends, GTX 1080 Ti's impressive memory clock is what makes it superior even to the Pascal Titan X. It is rumored to boast a memory clock going up as high as 1,251MHz, a bit higher than the Pascal GPUs already released by NVIDIA this year. However, even though the GTX 1080 Ti has an edge over the Titan X or any other NVIDIA GPUs, it is not expected to be as expensive. It is rumored that the GTX 1080 Ti will only cost a little higher than the GTX 1050 Ti's $140 price tag.
