NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti release date, specs, news: job listing confirms NVIDIA is working on the GTX 1080 Ti
Looks like the cat is out of the bag. An NVIDIA job listing on LinkedIn (via PC World) has confirmed that the rumors are true and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is really being developed. The posting for a "Senior Marketing Manager – GeForce, Gamer Loyalty & Advocacy" is no longer accepting applications, but it did reveal a lot.
According to the job posting, NVIDIA is going to give GTX 980 Ti users first dibs on the GTX 1080 Ti preorders, or a "step up" offer. The posting did not elaborate what this means, but ExtremeTech notes that the offer probably means GTX 980 Ti owners get to buy the GTX 1080 Ti at a discount.
PC World also revealed that some industry insiders think the company may unveil its new graphics card at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2017, while others believe NVIDIA may hold off on the announcement as their trump card against AMD's Vega-based Radeon graphics cards.
Sources say the GTX 1080 Ti may be based on NVIDIA's GP102 graphics chip. This will allegedly allow it to perform as well as the Titan X, but at a cheaper price, of course. The card will also have a CUDA core count of 3,328, a base clock of 1,503 MHz and a boost clock of 1,623 MHz.
Aside from that, sources say the GTX 1080 Ti will have a 384-bit memory interface to go along with a memory speed of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps). Digital Trends also believe the graphics card will have a 12 GB of GDDR5X memory, instead of the previously reported GDDR5. However, a number of sites still think that the GTX 1080 Ti will be a GDDR5 graphics card.
As of this moment, NVIDIA has yet to reveal the release date and specs of the GTX 1080 Ti. Readers are advised to take everything with a grain of salt until a confirmation is made.
