Okla. Church Still Stands After Three Tornadoes Hit Town
A church in Blanchard, Oklahoma was recently spared after massive tornadoes ripped through town Wednesday night, leveling buildings and destroying multiple homes.
Local residents of Blanchard were reportedly amazed to awake Thursday and see that the Bridge Creek Church of Christ was still standing although several other buildings in Blanchard had been destroyed.
"[The church] wasn't destroyed but places around us were totaled," Bridge Creek Church member Ernie Landry told The Christian Post Thursday. "We've got some damage. I don't know how much. The insurance company will have to come out and look. [There's] some damage all the way around it."
Although the Bridge Creek Church of Christ managed to survive Wednesday's three tornadoes, another church, Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Bridge Creek, was hit hard by the storm, with its children's ministry, storage building kitchen suffering damage.
The church was previously leveled in 1999 by a tornado.
David Rivers, a member of the church, told KFOR-TV in an interview Thursday that people who weren't members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church were coming to lend a hand in the church's repair.
"There's people here that I don't even know," Rivers said. "There's a gentleman down there I met, Warren is his name, that're cutting up our trees. And walked down there and said, 'How you doin' sir?' and introduced myself. He just said, 'Knew you guys needed help.' Lives up off of Memorial, I mean, doesn't even live in the community. And he drives all the way down here and just starts cutting up trees because that's something he does, something he can do to help out."
