'Orange is the New Black' season 5 air date, spoilers: Bennet returning to save Daya? Will they rekindle their romance?
"Orange is the New Black" season 5 promises an intense storyline for fans, if spoilers for the upcoming season are to be believed. So far, the teasers hint that there will be more deaths in the fifth season, with major players finding themselves in grave danger.
It looks like aside from Piper (Taylor Schilling), Daya (Dascha Polanco) will likewise find herself in danger as a result of her pointing a gun at C.O. Humphrey (Michael Torpey) during the season 4 finale.
According to reports, Daya, who's known to be one of the calmer inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary, might face harsh treatment because of what she did in the fourth season ender. With danger lurking for Daya, she might be sent to Security Housing Unit (SHU) when season 5 opens.
On the other hand, there are speculations that before things get out of hand for Daya at the SHU, someone will come back to help her. A recent Instagram post of Matt McGorry, who played Officer John Bennett on "Orange Is the New Black," showed him hiking with Laverne Cox, who plays the role of Sophian. Fans readily assumed that the two were together in preparation for McGorry's return to the show.
While there is a possibility that Bennett might be back to help Daya, other reports urge fans to take the news as mere speculation at this point, especially since the location (Los Angeles) of McGorry and Cox's photo together is too far from where "Orange Is the New Black" is being filmed (New York and Connecticut).
Talking to Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of Daya and Bennett meeting again, Polanco said she will love for it to happen, but it wasn't in her hands.
"I would love to see that, but you have to be realistic," she told the outlet. "He walked out of her life and her main priority right now is figuring out how she can take care of her child."
Even McGorry is unsure whether he will return to the series or not. In an interview with Bustle, the 30-year-old actor said he doesn't know if his character will return for season 5. He likewise stated that the end of his relationship with Daya back in season 3 was appropriate, saying relationships between correctional officers and inmates are bound to be problematic.
"Considering what their story actually looked like, it was probably the only way it could have ended," he said.
Netflix has yet to announce the actual air date of "Orange is the New Black" season 5, but it is expected in June 2017.
