'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 news, updates: Rumors of series cancelation are baseless, false
Lately, there are rumors circulating that Netflix has canceled "Orange Is the New Black." This, despite the fact the entire team behind the series is neck-deep in work to make the series ready for its purported June 2017 release. Is there any truth to the speculations?
According to Snopes, the unfounded reports supposedly sprung from TMZ Uncut. Apparently, the report is claiming that Netflix has canceled the series after employees missed work after attending the "Orange Is the New Black" watch party. The publication has since urged fans of the series not to believe the unfounded rumors, and that the show will still go on as expected.
As per TMZ Uncut's report, 78 of Netflix's 2,000 employees failed to show up for work after the party, with employees purportedly spewing off ridiculous reasons for missing work. It even claimed that Netflix employees have started selling their passwords to those who want to watch "Orange Is the New Black" online. The outrageous rumor even claimed Netflix's hit series is disrupting family time, making family members spend less time together, prompting the network to cancel the show.
However, Snopes pointed out that TMZ Uncut is not in any way connected to the authentic TMZ entertainment site. In fact, it shares a Facebook page with Celebritcity, a source of fake reporting that only aims to entertain people and not inform them.
The truth is Netflix has renewed "Orange Is the New Black" through to season 7. Variety reported that Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs is showering praises to series creator Jenji Kohan for her "brilliance," saying they are "excited to see more" of the series.
Apparently, the network is aware of how successful the series is, and they know it is one of the network's most-watched original series. They recognize the show's potential, which is why they renewed it for three more seasons after the fourth season.
"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is expected to return in June 2017. Stay tuned for more updates about the series.
