'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 spoilers, updates: More deaths expected on show as cancellation rumors proven false
Baseless and false are the best words to describe the nasty rumor that shrouded the Netflix hit "Orange Is the New Black" the past few days.
TMZ Uncut, a gossip website that is in no way connected to TMZ, the celebrity news site, was the first one to release false information concerning the cancellation of the series. The false report said Netflix decided to axe the series after employees failed to report to work following a viewing party for the show.
Netflix has yet to address the issue concerning the employees, but what's certain is that "Orange Is the New Black" will premiere in June 2017, and there will be two more seasons after that. Showrunner Jenji Kohan herself confirmed the good news through Variety.
"Here's to keeping it interesting. Thanks to Netflix! Both thanks and you're welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers... with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!"
That was definitely Kohan's way of slamming the rumors and informing "Orange Is the New Black" fans that the cast and crew will stick around until season 7. Besides, Netflix has already recognized the show as one of its more successful originals, so fans can rest assured that production will continue for this prison drama.
Meanwhile, after Poussey's (Samira Wiley) tragic death during the season 4 finale, viewers should brace themselves for more death in the coming season. It was reported earlier this month that the upcoming season will be rife with riots and more deaths as inmates are unable to deal with their conflicts.
It will be recalled that a character was aiming a gun towards someone in the season 4 cliffhanger, so it remains to be seen whether the trigger was pulled and if resulted in death.
"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is expected to premiere sometime in June 2017.
