'Outlander' season 3 spoilers: Caitriona Balfe teases Jamie and Claire's 'very interesting' reunion; series to slightly deviate from Diana Gabaldon's 'Voyager'
"Outlander" will soon return with all-new episodes this year, and star Catriona Balfe recently shared some interesting teasers about the much-awaited reunion between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
Season 2 wrapped up with Jamie telling Claire to come back to her original time period in the 1940s and be with her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Now that she's back, season 3 will center on Claire's relationship with her husband after she gives birth to Brianna, her daughter with Jamie. However, fans are still wondering when the star-crossed lovers will see each other again.
Balfe was recently nominated for the Best Actress In A Drama TV Series Award during Sunday's Golden Globes, and while on the red carpet, the actress offered up hints on Jamie and Claire's reunion. She also teased that it's already been filmed and the scene is something fans should really look forward to.
"There will be a reunion," Balfe told The Wrap, adding, "Which I think is really beautiful and it's been filmed really beautifully. It's very interesting, it's like, how do two people come together after not seeing each other for 20 years, after both believing each other have died, and how do you build something real again?"
While Balfe did not spill too many details, Heughan previously said that the time-traveling couple's reunion will give viewers a glimpse of how the two characters have changed since the show's debut. "It's really wonderful to play these characters who have moved on from where they were in Season 1, but, hopefully, you'll see bits of what attracted them to each other in the first place," he told PopSugar back in November.
The actor also revealed that "Outlander" season 3 will be a bit different from its source material, "Voyager" by Diana Gabaldon. Heughan explained that they try to stick as close as they can to Gabaldon's novels, but it's difficult to make a book episodic. "Certainly, the beginning of Season 3 is a slight deviation from the book," Heughan stated.
The 3rd season of "Outlander" is expected to premiere this year on Starz, but the network has yet to announce an official release date.
