Video game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment's "Overwatch" was released in May and is relishing a rather remarkable reception from seven million players of the first-person shooter game. "Overwatch" heroes McCree and D. Va will be in for balance changes in the near future.

"Overwatch" co-director Jeff Kaplan talked to Eurogamer about balance changes for the game's more popular characters McCree and D. Va. "The McCree nerf will be coming sooner than the D. Va buff," Kaplan said about Blizzard's plan for the sequence of the characters' modifications.

The "Overwatch" development team is looking to reduce McCree's Fan the Hammer ability which gives him the capacities to inflict deadly damages to multiple targets. The strength of Fan the Hammer will be intended to decrease while maintaining the objective that McCree will still be able to make use of the combination of his powers, the Flashbang and the Fan the Hammer, on someone as mighty as Tracer. McCree will still have to be capable of defying the likes of Genji and Reaper.

Right now McCree can very easily take out the Tank-based characters and this will have to be changed as this should not be the case. By reducing the extent of damages effected by McCree's Fan the Hammer, he will still be able to execute heroes of medium strength yet destroying the Tanks will not be too easy for him. He will not be as effective at winning against the Tanks with just a single shot and hence will be more challenging.

McCree is bringing about concerns among gamers and the "Overwatch" director wants to guarantee that the game's development team is being responsive and is addressing these issues. Kaplan shared that the developers are testing this McCree polish for quite some time and that the balance change so far "feels good." He assured that players will "still want him" on their team.

Meanwhile, with regard to D. Va., Kaplan noted that the character is "not in a horrible place" but there can still be a better place for her. The possibilities for D. Va are still being explored.

There is the concern about her abilities to cause effective damages only at a very close range. There is also the other question of her survival skills. These are the two directions being considered by Kaplan and his team yet only one of these likely changes will end up being made.

"I think the D. Va buffs will take a little bit longer for us to get to, but the McCree balance changes should come sooner," Kaplan stated.
