Pacquiao vs Mayweather Fight News: $1B Fight in China After Pacquiao vs Algieri Fight?

Eight-time world champion Manny Pacquiao is due to fight undefeated American challenger Chris Algieri this Saturday in Macau – a match that is expected to go down to the wire. A Pacman victory is expected to kick off speculation about who he is going to fight next, with a mega-buck matchup with Floyd Mayweather Jr. again looming on the horizon.

In the build up to the fight, Algieri's and Pacquiao's camps have appeared superbly confident. Algieri recently met the press and stated that he expects to "go out there during the fight and control everything, including my opponent."

Algieri's remark, Newsday notes, is audacious as he has only fought 20 opponents so far out of which he knocked out eight. Also, Algieri has only faced two tough opponents -- Emanuel Taylor and Ruslan Provodnikov. Pacquiao is much more experienced with 56 wins, out of which 38 were knockouts. He also had five losses and two draws.

Answering Algieri's taunt, Pacquiao's camp pointed out that the American boxer was knocked out during his time as a kickboxer. Algieri countered by stating that Pacquiao had also been knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.

The Daily Mail is reporting that most bettors are on the side of Pacquiao. The publication also reports that a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao faceoff could be worth $1 billion if it takes place in China sometime next year. If this plan materializes, the fight would become the single richest event in sporting history.

The hugeness of the prize is expected to ultimately break down the barriers that have prevented the fight from taking place.

Pacquiao and Mayweather would be looking to split at least $250 million from fight purse. Since Pacquiao has already agreed to Mayweather's demands – including a 60 percent majority of their earnings – the Filipino champion is expected to accept $100 million while Mayweather will get a minimum $150 million.
