Panthers' Cam Newton praises God for saving him in almost fatal truck accident

Super Bowl 50 is just a few days away, and for first-comer Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, he thanks God that he's here, alive and well.

In December 2014, Newton, 26, was involved in a horrible truck accident that left the vehicle utterly destroyed. Miraculously, the Panthers quarterback came out relatively unscathed. According to God Reports, Newton was discussing the confusing intersection in Charlotte when another vehicle slammed into the rear end of his pickup.

The pastor's son was able to come out of the back cabin window, sustaining a few minor fractures. 

During an interview with reporters, he said that he couldn't believe he survived the crash that could have easily ended his career, or life.

"Somebody had His good hands on me," a grateful Newton said. "One plus one always equals two. I'm looking at this truck. I'm looking at this accident, and I'm like dude, one plus one ain't equaling two, because I'm looking at this truck, and I'm like, somebody is supposed to be dead. Me being a religious person, God is good. I'm lucky to be standing in front of you today." 

"I am a prime example of how God can turn something that was bad into something that good," he added.

Newton, who was the first overall draft pick in 2011, has been considered among the greatest players to ever play in the National Football League (NFL). Even in his debut game in 2012, Newton already made his presence felt throughout the league as he passed Peyton Manning's passing record of 280 yards. 

So how far did his pass go? A whopping 400 yards.

This season, the Carolina Panthers are on a roll as it has only lost one game out of 16 matches, and it did so mainly due to Newton's two-edge skillset - running and passing. On Super Bowl Sunday, Newton and the Panthers will clash with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
