Pastor Saeed Abedini freed after spending more than 3 years in Iranian prison
American Iranian Pastor Saeed Abedini, who was imprisoned in Iran for more than three years, has been freed.
According to reports, the 35-year-old Abedini was part of a prisoner swap that both the American and Iranian governments have agreed upon.
Abedini was reportedly released on Friday and initially taken to Central Intelligence agency of Iran. A later report revealed that Rev. Franklin Graham has already talked with Saeed in a U.S. military medical center in Germany.
The pastor's wife, Naghmeh Abedini, shared a post on Facebook, thanking everyone who helped in prayers, and stood by her and her family.
She also expressed her sincere thanks to Rev. Graham, to their local pastor, Bob Caldwell, and the millions of people who have prayed for the release of her husband.
"This has been an answer to prayer. This is a critical time for me and my family. We look forward to Saeed's return and want to thank the millions of people who have stood with us in prayer during this most difficult time," she added.
In addition to Abedini, the prisoner swap involved two American prisoners who were freed as well.
Abedini was detained in an Iranian prison in the summer of 2012 because of his faith. In September of that year, he was transferred to Evin Prison, and later on to Rajai Shahr.
The pastor was sentenced to eight years in prison for holding private religious meetings in Christian homes several years back. The government saw the meetings as a threat to national security.
While the release of Pastor Abedini is indeed an answered prayer to the millions of Christians who prayed for him, more prayers are needed for other victims of injustice because of their faith.
