Paula Patton and Robin Thicke Divorce News: Cites 'Irreconcilable Differences'

It is official. On Tuesday, singer Robin Thicke, 38, and actress Paula Patton, 39, were granted a divorce in Los Angeles, effective April 14, 2015.

Patton, who starred in "Precious" and "2 Guns," filed for divorce in October 2014, citing "irreconcilable differences" with Thicke, her former high school sweetheart whom she married in 2005. They have a four-year-old son, named Julian.

They separated back in February 2014 after Thicke was accused of infidelity.

"We will always love each other and be best friends; however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the former couple said in a joint statement.

Patton had been the inspiration of many of Thicke's songs and she appeared in some of his videos. Thicke seemed to have confirmed the cheating rumors in a deposition he made in April 2014 when he said he wasn't an honest person and that was the reason for his separation with his wife. He also disclosed he was "high on Vicodin and alcohol" while recording "Blurred Lines," and that this problem also contributed to the collapse of their marriage.

In an attempt to win Patton back, Thicke named his next album "Paula" and his single "Get Her Back" was obviously meant for her as well. He made several public appearances last summer as part of his album promotion, accompanied by reconciliation pleas.

Unfortunately, it didn't work, as Patton rejected all his pleas. Moreover, his album tanked.

Patton and Thicke will share custody of their son.

This has definitely not been a good month for Thicke. Last week, he and Pharrell Williams lost their court case against Marvin Gaye's estate, which claimed that they borrowed heavily from Gaye's 1977 single "Got to Give It Up" when they wrote the smash hit "Blurred Lines." Thicke and Williams will need to pay Gaye's family more than $7.4 million in damages. They plan to file a motion for a new trial.
