Pebble Steel vs Samsung Gear 2 Specs, Price Comparison: Features Review - One is Stylish But the Other Has Great Specs
Pebble sold over one million smartwatches last year. Much of its success has been fueled by the Pebble Steel, which is a stylish version of the original Pebble watch. When compared to the Samsung Gear 2, it is clear that Pebble Steel has the upper hand in terms of design but lags in terms of specs and features.
Design
Both the Pebble Steel and the Samsung Gear 2 have bodies made from stainless steel. The device from Samsung has a bland futuristic design that comes in black and gold options while the Pebble Steel appears stylish and sleek but is available only in one color, black. As for their watch straps, the Pebble Steel comes with a default leather version and also a steel version while the Samsung Gear 2 has three straps fashioned from differently colored plastic. A major plus point with both devices is that their straps can be exchanged with any standard 22mm strap. Comparing their dust and water resistance rating, the Samsung Gear 2 has a IP67 rating, which means it can be submerged in up to one meter of water for about 30 minutes without incurring damage. The Pebble Steel has a better 5 atmosphere rating and can be used even when swimming.
Display
The Pebble Steel does not have a touchscreen and instead has a black-and-white e-paper display measuring 1.26 inches with a resolution of 168 X 144 pixels and a density of 176 pixels per inch. The Samsung Gear 2 has a 1.63-inch super AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 320X320 pixels and a density of 278 pixels per inch.
Specs and Sensors
The Gear 2 has a dual core processor clocked at 1GHz while the Pebble Steel has a 120MHz single core processor. As for storage, the Gear 2 has 4 GB while the Pebble Steel has 1 MB and can only run 8 apps at a time. Coming to sensors, the Pebble Steel has a 3D accelerometer, compass and light sensor while the Gear 2 has an accelerometer, gyroscope and heart rate sensor.
Price
The Pebble Steel is priced at $199 while the Gear 2 is priced at $300.
