A petition is currently circulating Australia calling on Target stores across the country to remove the Holy Bible from its shelves, arguing that the Bible teaches disrespect toward women.

The Change.org petition, which was creating for Target stores in Australia, urges the chain to drop the Holy Bible from its shelves because the book promotes "sexual violence against women."

"[The Bible] encourages readers to murder women for entertainment. The incentive is to commit sexual violence against women, then abuse or kill them to proceed or get 'god' points – and now Target are stocking it and promoting it for your Xmas stocking," the petition, started on Change.org, reads.

Many are viewing this petition and others as a spoof after one petition called on Target, Walmart and Kmart to stop stocking the Grand Theft Auto V video game because it promoted sexual violence toward women. The petition was successful in convincing Walmart and Kmart to pull the game from their shelves ahead of the holiday season.

The petition calling for the game to be removed from retailers' stores bears similarity to the petition calling for the Holy Bible to be removed, leading many to believe that the Holy Bible petition was created as a form of protest against the removal of Grand Theft Auto V from Aussie stores.

The original petition argues that Grand Theft Auto V is "a game that encourages players to murder women for entertainment. The incentive is to commit sexual violence against women, then abuse or kill them to proceed or get 'health' points," adding that the game is "grooming yet another generation of boys to tolerate violence against women."
