The fifth film to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise will feature Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) on the run from a new ghostly ship captain. Meanwhile, Keira Knightley will be appearing in "Dead Men Tell No Tales" at the end credits scene that hints at a sixth film.

Directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is slated to premiere this May, featuring Captain Jack Sparrow in an all-new survival adventure.

The synopsis posted on Slashfilm reads, "Deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack. Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy."

Executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared with USA Today, "It's really edgy, still has the humor, but (offers) some real tension."

Sparrow will be teaming up with Carina Smyth and Henry because the two are looking for the artifact for their own personal reasons. Aside from these three, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) will also be looking for the trident to break the curse that was cast by Davy Jones.

Although many new characters will be introduced, Bruckheimer reassured that Jack Sparrow will still be the star of the film.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Knightley will be appearing in "Dead Men Tell No Tales" but only in the end credits scene.

Comicbook reports that her cameo in the end credits scene introduces her character's presence in an upcoming sixth film for "Pirates of the Caribbean." However, there is no confirmation if the Oscar-nominated actress will be appearing in the movie itself.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" premieres on May 26, 2017.
