Planned Parenthood sues pregnancy center over mobile unit parking
Planned Parenthood is suing a neighboring pro-life pregnancy center for allegedly misusing a common area to park its mobile medical unit.
Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit last week against Stanton Healthcare Center, a non-profit, free pregnancy and healthcare center in Boise, Idaho. The abortion chain claimed that the pregnancy center is misusing the common areas of the business complex and that the clinic invites people to protest and cause nuisances, Red State reported.
Brandi Swindell, the founder and director of Stanton, said that her lawyers are currently reviewing the rules, but they are confident that the abortion chain does not have any justifiable grounds for the lawsuit.
"They're saying that we're inviting other groups to our property and they're blaming us for any nuisances brought by groups. We have very strict policies of code of conduct. Our brand is getting bigger and bigger and women are responding," said Swindell.
She said that the only complaints they have received in the business complex were from Planned Parenthood. She claimed that Stanton was welcomed by the businesses in the area because their services have driven up the value of the property.
She revealed that she intends to build a "mega-clinic" in order to provide the women with the highest possible quality of healthcare.
Swindell expressed her belief that Planned Parenthood filed the lawsuit because it feels threatened by Stanton.
"Planned Parenthood is always fighting for access issues; they're always accusing the pro-life community of trying to block access and here they are trying to block access!" she remarked.
The mobile clinic, which includes an exam room, ultrasound equipment, baby supplies, maternity clothes, and other medical necessities, currently remains local to the center, but Swindell plans to bring Stanton's services directly to the homeless in Boise. She also aims to take the mobile clinic to high schools and underserved rural areas across Idaho.
Stanton created a crowdfunding page to raise money for its legal defense.
"We cannot allow Planned Parenthood to bully us. Planned Parenthood should be ashamed of themselves, that they would ever restrict or try to prevent a non-profit women's center from providing quality healthcare and hope to women in need," said Swindell in a statement.
