The website for Planned Parenthood was hacked Wednesday following the recent release of three controversial videos that show executives for the abortion provider discussing the procurement of aborted fetal tissue.

Planned Parenthood said in a statement that the cyber hack was "an attack by extremists" who reportedly flooded the abortion provider's website with traffic, causing it to crash.

"This is a new low for anti-abortion extremists; 200,000 people a day count on Planned Parenthood's website for accurate health information," Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood's executive vice president, said in a statement to CNN regarding the hack.

"Blocking people from accessing information on the full range of sexual and reproductive health -- including birth control, sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, parenting and preventive care -- only shows how far opponents of safe and legal abortion will go."

The hack comes after the activist group the Center for Medical Progress released three videos, two of which show Planned Parenthood executives discussing the costs associated with the procurement and transportation of aborted feta ltissue.

Although the abortion provider denies making a profit off of the donation of fetal body tissue, the recent videos have lead lawmakers to ask Congress to investigate the abortion provider. It is a felony to profit off of the sale of fetal tissue.

The recent videos have caused presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle to weigh in on the abortion issue, with democratic 2016 hopeful Hillary Clinton calling the videos "disturbing" in a statement this week.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul have also vowed to push for the federal defunding of Planned Parenthood.
