October 2014 is horror month for PlayStation Plus fans amid a resurgence in the horror genre, according to online sources.

Leading off the list of pre-Halloween games is Resident Evil 6. Capcom, its developer, has released some details about the upcoming and highly anticipated game. There will be new modes and additional content to satisfy Resident Evil fans far beyond the game's release date.

In its press release, Capcom says the game will have three new online modes. These are:

Survivors Mode: A player takes the classic solo- and team-based versus mode and adds a twist. If he gets killed, he becomes an enemy character with the ability to attack the human characters. If he takes down two human characters , he will resurrect in human form. Last man or team standing wins.

Predator Mode: A player takes on the role of the Ustanak, the fearsome B.O.W. that stalks Jake Muller throughout his campaign, and tries to eliminate the human players. The humans' task: stop the deadly B.O.W. in its tracks, or at least survive until the end of the session.

Siege Mode: Choosing the human side, players will protect a single NPC, while as a member of the enemy team, players will need to eliminate that same NPC. If the NPC is still alive at the end of the time period, the human team wins.

All three modes will able to support up to six players online and also be playable using maps from the Mercenaries Mode. Using ResidentEvil.net, players will be able to track their scores and statistics with the ability to compare them with others.

ResidentEvil.net is a free online service that will be released alongside Resident Evil 6, which will be released in North America on Oct. 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Other free games up for grabs for PS 3 game fans are: God of War: Ascension, and Saints Row IV, two big games in popular franchises released last year. Saints Row is set for release late this year or early next year.

Here is the list of predicted games for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.

PS4: Knack, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Lego Marvel Superheroes, Flower (cross-buy), Child of Light (cross-buy), The Unfinished Swan (cross-buy), SteamWorld Dig (cross-buy), and Terraria (cross-buy).

One Product Reviews reader commented: "With a new Assassin's Creed game about to release, it makes sense for the PS Plus October 2014 free PS4 games lineup to include Black Flag. The game is about to be replaced and I know this title will make a lot of PS4 owners happy."

Another reader added: "If Killzone joins the October PS Plus list of Vita free games, then this will be amazing. In fact, it would be the best month yet for PS Plus."
