'Pokémon GO' updates: game still coming for the Apple Watch
Looks like the rumors of its cancellation has been greatly exaggerated. Rumors saying that Niantic has abandoned its plans to port "Pokémon GO" to the Apple Watch began circulating online over the weekend thanks to a certain post on Reddit. Well, like a lot of news that came out of Reddit, this one turned out to be false.
Niantic has officially announced that the game is still coming to the Apple Watch. GameSpot also reported that a Niantic spokesperson has confirmed they are still developing the game for the smartwatch.
Before Niantic made the announcement, one of the people behind The Silph Road also stated that there was no way Niantic would cancel the game on the Apple Watch because Apple has already made a promise that the game was coming to the device.
"Apple doesn't keynote vaporware. There are serious contracts for these things. There's a 100% chance we'll see an Apple Watch app. Those who've been with us a while know the Silph Road has never been wrong about these things before — and I'm more than willing to stake our name on this as well."
Meanwhile, Niantic has been busy working on improvements for the game in the past few months. The Nearby tracking feature has now been expanded to more locations around the world, and the company has also partnered with Sprint and Starbucks to turn their stores into PokéStops and Gyms.
The company also has some good news for players who are living in rural areas. In a recent tweet, Niantic hinted that there have been an "increased numbers of Pokémon sightings in parks and other outdoor locations in urban and rural areas."
Hopefully, this gives trainers who live far away from urban areas a better chance at catching Pokémon. Now if only the company can put more PokéStops and Gyms in the countryside.
