"Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" have been breaking records left and right. First, they became the best preselling games ever in Nintendo history. Later on, it was also announced that "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" were now the fastest-selling games the company has ever launched in America after it sold 3.7 million units in the first two weeks it became available. The games also broke Nintendo's U.K. launch records.

To cap it off, VentureBeat has reported that the industry-tracking company NPD Group has released their latest monthly report and it was revealed that "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" have the best launch ever in franchise history.

According to NPD's Sam Naji, the games sold eight percent more units than "Pokémon Black & White" even though they were on the market for 19 fewer days. Interestingly, digital sales for the two games were not counted by NPD as the company only tallied physical sales. That's odd.

Those who want to see the actual figures should note that NPD will no longer reveal proper sales charts to the public, so the list they compiled is organized by the revenue generated, not copies sold.

As a result of the games' success, Naji revealed that the Nintendo sold more units of their 3DS handheld game consoles during the period of Oct. 31 to Nov. 26. "Nintendo 3DS experienced its highest monthly physical software spending in the history of the platform. They were 1 percent higher than the previous high in December 2014," he said.

"Unit sales of 3DS hardware grew 59 percent versus November a year ago, the sixth straight month of year-on-year growth," Naji added.

NPD's report also revealed that both games combined actually outsold "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" in the U.S. market. "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare also launched in November, and it would top the list if you don't combine Pokémon Sun and Moon into one game," Naji stated.
