Police Capture Suspect Who Shot 5, Killed 1 Near Phoenix, Arizona
Police have reportedly ordered residents in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, Arizona to stay indoors after a suspect went on a shooting spree at several locations, killing one and wounding five.
Shortly before 2 p.m., Mesa Police announced that they had taken the suspect into custody. Police carried out an extensive search for the suspect and reportedly locked down several neighborhoods in the area while they hunted for the suspect.
"Stay indoors, or if you see someone who matches the description, call 911," Mesa Police spokesman Esteban told NBC News. "People should be concerned, but we are looking for him."
The man is described as having tattoos on his neck and face and wearing black shorts and a black shirt at the time of the shooting.
The incident reportedly began Wednesday morning during a heated argument at the local Tri City Inn, when the suspect opened gunfire and killed one man on the scene, while an additional two women were transported to the hospital.
The gunman then reportedly traveled to a nearby restaurant called The Bistro located near the East Valley Institute of Technology, where he shot and wounded a student.
The suspect then reportedly shot two additional victims at nearby apartment complexes.
The Arizona State Police announced via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that the suspect had been captured.
"BREAKING: @MesaPD has reported that Mesa is reporting the suspect has been captured in the area of west Mesa near 8th Ave. and Dobson," the tweet read.
