Police: Former NFL Player Brought Loaded Gun Into Texas Church
A former NFL player has been taken in for a mental evaluation after he reportedly entered a church in Texas with a loaded gun back in June.
A police report obtained by TMZ indicates former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber was taken to a local hospital to receive a mental evaluation after he reportedly entered a church in Mansfield, Texas back on June 15 with a loaded gun that he showed to fellow congregants when he removed his jacket.
The 31-year-old former player, who last played for the Chicago Bears in 2011, was reportedly cleared at the local hospital after receiving a mental evaluation. Police who spoke with the pastor of the World of Truth Church in Mansfield reported that Barber appeared confused and disoriented when he was questioned at the house of worship.
One police officer told TMZ that the church's pastor, Eben Conner, heard Barber state he "did not know what year it was or where he was at."
The pastor also told police that Barber had "removed his jacket showing the congregants his firearm in public." The firearm, a 9mm handgun, reportedly contained three magazines and 51 hollow point bullets.
Pastor Connor, a personal friend of Barber's, told Fox News that he continues to pray for his friend as he struggles. "He called me today and I could not follow his conversation. He has been this way for a while."
A friend of the former football player added to police that Barber claimed he had been drinking on the day he was taken in for a mental evaluation. Neighbors also reported seeing him pacing back and forth in front of his home in Mansfield on the day of the incident.
