Season 4 of "Prison Break" ended in 2009 with its lead character, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), six feet under the ground. As such, the news that it would receive a follow-up in 2017 came as a surprise to fans, especially with Miller and Dominic Purcell, who plays his brother, Lincoln Burrows, returning, with some believing that the show would undergo a reboot to accommodate Michael coming back to life.

However, Fox Television Group co-chair Dana Walden dismissed this. She said in a statement, "I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up with the characters several years after we left them in the show. The brothers will be back."

According to Independent, T-Bag (Robert Knepper) will be the one who will inform Lincoln that his brother is still alive and where Michael is. He will then seek the help of Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callis), Michael's romantic interest in "Prison Break," to help rescue Miller's character, who, it turns out, has been involved in an ISIS-linked terrorist group for the past five years. He is eventually locked up in a Yemeni prison, and season 5 will see Lincoln and Sara trying to break him out of there.

It is worth noting that Mark Feuerstein was cast as Scott Ness, Sara's new husband, which means that Michael will be facing several problems should he be successfully rescued, although he seems to be aware of this relationship, as indicated in a trailer for the fifth season.

Inbar Lavi is also a new cast member, and she will be playing Sheba, an activist who will be Lincoln's romantic interest. Also included in the cast are Augustus Prew, Amin El Gamal, Marina Benedict, and Kunal Sharma. Not a lot of details have been given about their characters in the show.

Also returning for the fifth season of "Prison Break" are Fernando Sucre, Rockmond Dunbar, and Paul Adelstein.

Season 5 of "Prison Break" is slated to premiere on Tuesday, April 4, at 9 pm on FOX. It will run for nine episodes.
