'Prison Break' season 5 release date: Season 6 still on the cards
"Prison Break" season 5 won't premiere until next year, but fans of the series are already inquiring about the possibilities of the show continuing on to season 6.
The return of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is only meant to be a limited series with only nine episodes.
According to the writers of the show, creator Paul Scheuring has no plan to go beyond "Prison Break" season 5, at least not yet, but they teased that "that doesn't mean there won't be one."
With that said, it appears that Scheuring has not closed his doors on a new season, but it depends on how the revival performs. "Anything is possible if the new season does well," the writers said.
It is no secret that it was tough to bring the cast back for "Prison Break" season 5 as majority of the actors had ongoing shows when the revival was hatched.
It might not be the same case for season 6, and the bigger consideration is how the limited series will perform. A big opening is already expected, as millions of fans have been longing to see Michael and Lincoln return.
In "Prison Break" season 5, it was revealed that the former was alive all along and that he was working for a terrorist group in Yemen. He was imprisoned since he refused to continue serving the group.
Lincoln received word from Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper) and flies to Yemen to break his brother out of prison, with Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) who insists on helping.
"Prison Break" season 5 will have nine episodes that run 42 minutes each. The writers teased that it will be an emotional ride and that even within the small number of episodes, they are telling "a whole chapter in our characters' lives."
"Prison Break" season 5 will premiere in spring 2017 on FOX.
