'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers: Cyclops character detailed; Amin El Gamal promises fans won't be disappointed of revival
Fans will meet a lot of new characters in "Prison Break" season 5, and one of them will be Cyclops, who is to be played by "The Librarians" star Amin El Gamal.
The character was loosely based on the character of the same name in Homer's "The Odyssey," from which the revival series was actually inspired. For the uninitiated, Cyclops is actually the name of a race of cannibalistic one-eyed giants.
The background of the character is certainly dark and sinister, but in "Prison Break" season 5, the focus will be in finding the good in Cyclops. El Gamal revealed more about how he did this in an interview with Celebmix. "If what I was trying to do with the character succeeds, you'll see the underpinnings of what makes someone who we might write off as 'evil' an actual human being," the actor said. "But you can also expect lots and lots of fights, crazy chases and all around dope action sequences," he went on to say, adding that he did training for these "Prison Break" season 5 stunts. To be effective as Cyclops in "Prison Break" season 5, El Gamal said that he focused on the physical and emotional wounds the character endures.
"For me, I found strength in doing my homework: researching his situation in an unflinching and nonjudgmental way, and finding the ways that I personally connect to his needs," the actor explained.
From the looks of it, Cyclops and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) will not be all that friendly in "Prison Break" season 5.
The actor also had something to say about the limited series, assuring that fans will be happy to see Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) back on the small screen.
"The new season definitely feels very current and takes on some risky subject matter, but from what I've seen so far, I don't think anyone will be disappointed," El Gamal said.
Apart from Cyclops, other new characters fans will meet include Sara's (Sarah Wayne Callies) new husband Jacob Ness (Mark Feuerstein), activist Sheba (Inbar Lavi) and an identity thief named Ja (Rick Yune).
Joining them are A&W (Marina Benedict), who has an affinity to prioritize her deadly goals rather than her well-being and Sid (Kunal Sharma), who was imprisoned for being gay.
"Prison Break" season 5 will premiere Tuesday, April 4, on FOX.
