PS4 Firmware 2.0 Update, Features: Custom Themes, Share Play (VIDEO)

Rumors of the PlayStation 4 Firmware 2.0 has been swirling on the internet for quite some time now and it would seem like the long-awaited release of the major firmware update for the PS4 will be bringing all the features that we were promised last year. Hopefully Sony keeps all of these "promises" and pack it with some other big surprises.

At the moment, unlike the older PlayStation 3, the PS4 is just Blue because of the absence of custom themes (pun intended), but it is going to be a thing of the past once the Firmware 2.0 is released.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has already shown us some animated themes that features the mascots Kuro and Toro. The said theme looks cool with the characters moving around as you navigate through the menus.

PS VITA owners will also be treated with the same stuff once the update is pushed.

Another major addition to PlayStation 4's feature list would be the YouTube support. It is a bit weird that gamers are having to wait for the firmware update to get such a basic feature, and many would have thought this would have been one of the core items available when the PS4 was originally release. Still, it is better late than never. This feature will let players upload gameplay videos to YouTube directly from their console.

Share Play is also another thing to watch out for. This is a feature where you can actually "share" your game with other players across the globe. This simply streams your game, and as with the Share Play feature, it places players into a "virtual couch", which makes it appear that you're near your friend while playing your games.

You could even "virtually pass" the controller to somebody for certain scenarios. This is Sony taking advantage of PlayStation Now's feature.

As for the release date, there's still no definite answer, but Sony did say that it will be around this coming Fall, so be sure to regularly check for news and updates, and it should be just weeks away.
