'Pyre' release date news, update: Versus mode introduced; gameplay involves controlling three members of a group
"Pyre" was revealed at the recently concluded PlayStation Experience with a new Versus mode. The gameplay involves one-on-one competition of two players, making it a unique mode for a multiplayer format.
"Our focus during development has first and foremost been the single-player campaign experience, and creating the interesting and memorable cast of characters you'll get to know during your journey," said "Pyre" creative boss Greg Kasavin in a blog post. "Multiplayer was something we also thought had a lot of potential, but was something we were only going to pursue if we felt we could pull it off without compromising on our ambitions for the single-player. We had to get to this point in development to make sure of that."
The video trailer has also been revealed to showcase the title. The combat scenarios have been witnessed by the enthusiasts as they learn the gameplay of deploying a glowing orb into the enemy's pyre to take it down.
Versus mode will require the players to eliminate the pyre of another player by outwitting each other's strategy, in which the main goal is to deploy the celestial orb. This can be done in two ways: either by throwing the orb or by forcing a character to the pyre along with the orb.
As of this time, "Pyre" Versus mode is on local play support, which means players can only battle out with fellow PlayStation 4 (PS4) players. The mode is still under works to enable players to also be able to fight with a computer.
ShackNews has noted that while the gameplay is as simple as destroying the opponent's pyre, those who have tried the game believe that it is not as easy as expected. The Versus mode, before the rules for it came out, has almost the same gameplay in which the players are to control a group of three members. Each member has a specific ability that can be used for advantage.
"Pyre" is slated for a 2017 launch date for PC and PS4.
