Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 news, update: company bringing out first chipset with 10 nm tech
The company has introduced the successor of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, the all-new and improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.
The next-generation processor will be the first from Qualcomm to use the 10-nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology, making it the thinnest and most powerful chipset from the company yet.
Thanks to the new technology, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor should be 20 percent more efficient and should offer 27 percent increase in performance and 40 percent lower power consumption.
The smaller space the processor will take up owing to the new 10nm design should allow mobile makers to use the extra room for larger batteries or thinner bodies for the device.
The all-around improvements on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor should also be able to drastically improve the battery life of devices to be powered by the chipset.
Samsung will again be in charge of the production of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The South Korea-based tech giant was also responsible for the previous iterations.
"We are excited to continue working together with Samsung in developing products that lead the mobile industry," Qualcomm senior vice president for product management Keith Kressin said.
"Using the new 10nm process node is expected to allow our premium tier Snapdragon 835 processor to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance while also allowing us to add a number of new capabilities that can improve the user experience of tomorrow's mobile devices," he added.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor is now in production and will be powering the new wave of mobile flagships coming during the first half of 2017.
Some of the smartphones expected to make use of it include the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the OnePlus 4 among others. The Microsoft Surface Phone, should it ever show up, will likely take advantage of the processor as well.
