'Rainbow Six Siege' news: Ubisoft unveils new 'Operation Velvet Shell' Operator
"Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" has recently unveiled a new Operator with the launch of the first DLC, titled "Operation Velvet Shell," for the game's second year.
Ubisoft has released a "Rainbow Six Siege" teaser featuring Ryad Ramirez Al-Hassar (codenamed Jackal), one of the two new Spanish Operators from Grupo Especial de Operaciones (G.E.O.), who will be introduced to the game via the upcoming "Operation Velvet Shell" DLC update.
According to a blog post on the game's official website, Jackal was in foster care in the early years of his life. He was then taken under the wing of his older brother Faisal when he became old enough to be Ryad's guardian.
When Ryad was only 17 years old, Faisal died. His death was ruled as an inconclusive case of street violence. Because Ryad was determined to learn the truth about what really happened with his brother, he decided to join law enforcement, and he eventually became a member of the G.E.O.
The G.E.O. was founded in 1977, during Spain's tumultuous transition to a democratic government. The foundation of the organization was influenced by the tragic Munich 1972 Summer Olympics. Although the G.E.O. is known for preventing acts of terror, they are also known to operate against drug trafficking rings.
While the Operator's unique ability will only be revealed at the Six Invitational event, R6 Scriptwriter Farah Brixi did reveal the elements which inspired Jackal's persona. Brixi explained that it was their objective to portray how Spain's special operations assign a role to each officer which resonates with their personal assets and tactic of choice.
"We created Jackal with that in mind, so that he would fully embody a specific playstyle. When you pick Jackal you are sending a clear message to the opposing team: now they've got a target on their back," Brixi said.
"You can expect Jackal to embody their resourcefulness in difficult terrains as his specialty lies in counter drug smuggling operations. He underwent extensive survival courses, tactical desert navigation programs, and specialized combat diving courses to gain this edge," she added.
