'Ray Donovan' season 5 news: Three new recurring characters join Showtime's crime drama
"Ray Donovan" is beefing up its cast with three more new characters for the upcoming season 5.
According to reports, Adina Porter, Brian White, and Lili Simmons have all been tapped to recur in Showtime's critically acclaimed drama. Porter will play the role of Vicky Delgatti, a fixer similar to Ray (Liev Schreiber), who is set to appear in at least four episodes. She is known for her roles in FX's "American Horror Story" and The CW's "The 100."
White, who has previously starred in "Scandal," "Chicago Fire," and "The Family Stone," will join the show as a famous celebrity. His character Jay is a rapper-actor-producer who is one of the most popular personalities in the world. He will appear in at least four episodes as well, similar to Porter. Lastly, "Banshee" actress Simmons is set to recur as Natalie James in a season-long arc. A star of a huge movie franchise, Natalie is described as a young and attractive actress.
Set in Los Angeles, the series follows Irish-American Ray Donovan as he works for the influential law firm Goldman & Drexler to represent the rich and famous. Notorious for being a fixer, Ray's main job is to arrange payoffs, bribes, threats, and other shady activities to make sure that the client's desired outcome happens.
Back in September, showrunner David Hollander spoke with Yahoo TV to discuss the theme for season 5. He revealed that the storyline will focus more on Hollywood and Ray's personal life.
"I think my desire for [Season 5] is really all about a full-on Hollywood assault," he said. "A grand Hollywood year. It's going to be a little concentrated now, but that's where we're going. Family focused, Hollywood, boxing, relationship between Abby and Ray, and the brothers working more closely with Ray," he went on to say.
The fifth season of "Ray Donovan" is expected to premiere in summer 2017.
