"Red Dead Redemption 2" has been the subject of various rumors and leaks in the past months, which led many to believe that it is coming sooner rather than later.

However, it appears that it will be a while before it sees the light of day. It might wait for next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft to arrive before it comes out.

The long-awaited sequel was a no-show at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last June and again skipped the PlayStation Meeting early this month.

With 2017 just less than four months away, media outlets are losing hope "Red Dead Redemption 2" will come out this year.

By the time "Red Dead Redemption 2" is made official, Sony's new PlayStation 4 Pro will be well-established already since the console will be released this November.

Although it is looking like the PS4 Pro will arrive before the "Red Dead Redemption" sequel does, it is daunting to think that the game will wait for the Xbox Project Scorpio as well, which will be released holiday next year.

This would mean that fans will have to wait for another year for "Red Dead Redemption 2." According to Expert Reviews, the western shooter might not be back in the game scene until 2018 or 2019.

If this will be the case, it would mean almost a decade of waiting for fans. This is definitely a much longer wait for the first "Red Dead Redemption," which was released six years after "Red Dead Revolver."

Developer Rockstar Games has not yet made "Red Dead Redemption 2" official although its parent company Take-Two Interactive has hinted the game will come out.

CEO Strauss Zelnick has already said that "Red Dead" is a "franchise" they will develop. Additionally, the massive success of the previous installments of the western shooter just begged for a new installment.

Also, with Rockstar appearing to still be preoccupied with "Grand Theft Auto 5," which is expected to receive new content soon, completing "Red Dead Redemption 2" might be a challenge.

Early this year, Zelnick said that Rockstar is "hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon." He did not go into detail about it, but it appears that the company has something planned.

The question now is Zelnick's idea of soon and if one of these "future projects" set for an imminent reveal is the "Red Dead Redemption 2."
