The Gamescom 2016 event has come and gone, but "Red Dead Redemption 2" remains as unofficial as it was years back. But this does not stop rumor mills from churning out new information.

According to reports, "Red Dead Redemption 2" will feature zombie-themed downloadable content (DLC) much like the infamous "Undead Nightmare" from the first game.

The DLC was a runaway success. What Culture described it as "the best video game DLC ever made, or merely one of the best pieces of video game DLC ever made."

With the tremendously positive reception of the new content, it is now expected that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will get the same type of DLC when it releases.

Released for the first game in 2010, the "Undead Nightmare" DLC is a single-player storyline that follows protagonist John Marston's quest to find a cure to the so-called Undead plague that crawled into the border.

The DLC certainly added a fun vibe to the otherwise dark and serious tone of the game, and it did so by perfecting the horror genre elements that made the content more effective.

However, as much as the excitement around a possible zombie DLC for "Red Dead Redemption 2," the game is yet to be released, let alone confirmed by developer Rockstar Games.

Although the studio has already said that "Red Dead" will be a "permanent franchise" like "Grand Theft Auto," the long-rumored sequel has not been made official.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" was expected to see the light of day at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. Before the event, there were tons of leaks and reports pertaining to the game, but it was not launched there.

It was said that it was cut from the event in respect of the victims of the Orlando, Florida shooting, but PlayStation vice president Adam Boyes has denied such last-minute change.

The expectations were there also because Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive hinted that they will make a splash at E3 and that the new Rockstar games will be revealed "soon."

However, it appears that "Red Dead Redemption 2" is still not ready for its unveiling. It is said that when it does get confirmed, it will be done through an online announcement.
