The highly anticipated "Red Dead Redemption 2" is still without an official release date, with Rockstar Games keeping mum about the details of the purported sequel. Still, fans of the game are holding on to every rumor and speculation they could glean about the game.

Back in June, it was reported that the sequel will have a multiplayer mode, something which made fans excited for its actual release. However, several gaming conventions have come and gone without any updates on the development of the sequel.

News about the sequel was expected in June's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), but the event opened and closed without information on the said game. The same thing happened during the Games Con 2016.

Now, the rumor mill is spawning talks that Rockstar Games may forego "Red Dead Redemption 2" and instead release "Red Dead 3."

That means rather than develop a sequel, the company will develop an entirely new game as the third offering from the "Red Dead" game series. It will be recalled that the first game was called "Red Dead Revolver" with Red Harlow as main protagonist while the one that followed was called "Red Dead Redemption" with John Marston as lead character.

Many fans thought the next game will be the second offering's sequel, "Red Dead Redemption 2," but according to rumors, since the game will bring in a new protagonist just like the first two versions, it will be called "Red Dead 3." Game n Guide reports it will likely be called "Red Dead 3: Legends of the West."

Since Rockstar Games has been stingy with updates about the game, fans are assuming that the game will not come out earlier than 2018.

Nevertheless, if Neurogadget's report is anything to go by, it looks like it will be worth the wait as "Red Dead Redemption 2" or "Red Dead 3," whichever is the working title, will include virtual reality integration.

In the meantime, fans of the game should stick around and keep coming back for more news, updates, and perhaps, Rockstar Games' official announcement regarding "Red Dead Redemption 2's" release date.
