Report: Assyrian Christian Fighter Beheads Islamic State Militant As Revenge
A Syrian watchdog group has reported this week that a member of a Christian militant group in the Middle East has reportedly beheaded a jihadist as retribution for attacks on Christians in the region.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announce this week that the incident recently took place in Syria's Hasakeh province, where a member of the local Assyrian Christian militia reportedly took an Islamic State militant hostage and then beheaded him as revenge for attacks on Christian minorities in the region.
"He took him prisoner and when he found out he was a member of IS, the Assyrian fighter beheaded him in revenge for abuses committed by the group in the region," Rami Abdel Rahman, chief of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said in a statement.
Recent allegations of a Christian beheading an Islamic State fighter come after numerous attacks by the terrorist group on the Christian minority.
Assyrian Christians who have escaped Islamic State-dominated areas for safer regions have described the horrors they and their family have endured during Islamic State occupation.
Jack Zayya, an Assyrian Christian refugee who fled Syria for Lebanon, previously said that his children were forced to watch the Islamic State behead Assyrians.
"Our children saw many beheadings," he said, according to The Christian Post, adding "We were obligated to watch public executions. What kind of world is that for kids to grow up in? They were always scared."
Videos posted by the terror group also show the mass beheading and execution of 30 Ethiopian Christians back in April.
