A listing at the Sony PlayStation store has hinted a release date of Feb. 17, 2015 for Resident Evil Revelations 2.

However, the Resident Evil Twitter account issued a statement regarding this, saying the date is just a "placeholder" and that the true date is still unconfirmed.

Although no official announcement has yet been made on the game's release date, fans are not dashing off the possibility, hoping that the release will probably be around that time.

In Japan, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is known as the Biohazard Revelations 2. It will be the second instalment to the Resident Evil franchise. The upcoming version of this Capcom –developed game will be compatible with PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

According to the Sony PlayStation Store, the game will be "episodically released" over four weeks, in a total of four instalments. Gamers will have the option to purchase per episode or purchase the entire season through pre-order.

However, pre-ordering the game will be slightly more expensive than purchasing it per episode. In addition, pre-purchasing the game will give gamers the "Raid Mode 'Throwback' Stage Pack" for free upon the release of the game, as well as other additional bonus content.

Game producer Michiteru Okabe says the Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will play a big role in other upcoming games. "Speaking personally, I'm really excited about VR," Okabe said in an interview with the Informer Magazine.

"I think it makes sense. Having gone from 2D to 3D, now it's time to surround yourself in these worlds instead of just having a screen in front of you. It makes sense; the technology is there," he says.

"There's going to be some really compelling stuff coming out on [VR], no doubt. It makes sense for a lot of game genres; I think it makes a special kind of sense for horror games where immersion is more important than perhaps in other genres. I think we should most definitely start thinking about what we could do with that kind of technology in the future. It makes perfect sense," he added.
