'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' premiere date news update: Final installment features Alice getting help from an unlikely ally
The sci-fi action film series based on the popular Capcom game franchise "Resident Evil" ends on its sixth movie. In "The Final Chapter," Alice (Milla Jovovich) receives help from an unlikely ally.
The "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is the sixth and last movie from the title series based on the Capcom video game of the same title. The movie franchise began in 2002 with "Resident Evil," and it introduced Alice and her story with the fictional Umbrella Corporation in Raccoon City.
The Umbrella Corporation owned a genetic research lab called The Hive that caused the zombie outbreak with its genetically engineered T-virus, and Alice's blood contains the cure.
In "The Final Chapter," the story will pick up right after the events that transpired in "Resident Evil: Retribution." The film description from Sony Pictures reads: "Alice is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse."
As seen from the official trailer, Alice will be taking the help from an unexpected ally, the Red Queen. The Red Queen is the Umbrella Corporation's artificial intelligence created scientist, which is responsible for the T-virus to monitor and to secure The Hive. It seems that on Alice's final mission, the Red Queen will be her aid in her attempt to get in The Hive alive.
In an interview with IGN, Ali Larter, who will reprise her role as Claire in "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," shared her thoughts on the franchise's final film.
"The script is amazing. They're really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. -- you know, I'm excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited," Larter shared.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" will hit theaters on Jan. 27, 2017 in the U.S.
