Retired Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson shares how she discovered that 'God is the answer'

Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson may have retired from competitive gymnastics in 2012, but she continues to be visible in the public eye, this time using her voice to inspire people to put God first. 

In a video uploaded by I Am Second, Johnson, who retired from competitive gymnastics in 2012 at the age of 20, shared that she pushed herself beyond her limit just to please sponsors, people around her and the country. In one of her practices on the balance beam, she realized that the gold medal doesn't matter if one doesn't have God.

"In that instance I felt the entire world be lifted off my shoulders," Johnson shared, adding "God is the answer to everything." 

Even though the Olympian has long retired from the sport, she still enjoys competing, and most recently in the kitchen, and for a cause. Johnson competed against celebrities NeNe Leakes, Lamorne Morris and Johnny Weir in Food Network's Cupcake Wars for an all-star cupcake showdown last July 18. Among the prizes is $10,000 to be given to the winner's chosen charity. The Olympic medalist fought up to the last drop of icing, but she lost in the first round. Nonetheless, fans continued cheering for her on Instagram.

Johnson's fans will still see her on television soon. In an interview with NBC, Johnson shared that she will be covering the 2016 Rio Olympics for Yahoo. "I'll be covering gymnastics for them and doing a lot of lifestyle around the green, around Rio stories. So I'll be around," said Johnson.

Johnson told NBC that if she had to pick top five women gymnasts, they would be Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, and Maggie Nichols. Specifically, she eyes Biles to take home the gold.
