'Rick and Morty' season 3 spoilers, news: First teaser for upcoming season shows Rick and Morty freaking out
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's animated series "Rick and Morty" returns with new episodes in 2017, and to help tide fans over until it arrives, a short sneak peek for the upcoming third season has been released.
In the three-minute clip, Morty appears to be standing by his school locker as he eavesdrops on a conversation between his long-time crush, Jessica, and her friends. The girls' discussion immediately turns into a not-safe-for-work (NSFW) conversation, and when Morty walks towards the group to chime in, he suddenly gets pulled away by Rick.
The scene cuts to Rick taking Morty on yet another intergalactic adventure that puts them in an intense space battle against a giant monster that almost ends their lives. Upon getting the job done, the duo abruptly freaks out as they realize that they had a near-death experience. This sheds a new light on the characters because the heroes appear to be broken down after looking back at all the dangerous encounters they've had in the past.
As io9 points out, the video was part of an Adult Swim live stream called "Development Meeting" that was aired a week and a half ago (hence the three guys in the lower-left corner who are also watching it). Even though the animation is nowhere near finished and there are only a few sound effects included, the interactions between Rick and Morty (characters' voices provided by writer, animator, director, producer, and co-creator Roiland) are enough to make the whole clip worth watching.
Launched as part of Cartoon Network's late night programming block Adult Swim, the show explores the misadventures of mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his easily-influenced grandson Morty as they try to divide their time between domestic family life and interdimensional missions. Aside from Roiland, other voice actors in the series include Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 premieres next year on Adult Swim.
