'Rick and Morty' season 3 spoilers, updates: Four-minute improvised mini episode teases third season events
So much has been speculated about the upcoming third season of "Rick and Morty," and perhaps, in an effort to assuage fans' feelings, the show's creators decided to release a mini episode depicting events of the upcoming installment.
There have been rumors that the third season of Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty" will come out this August. Nevertheless, co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were quick to dismiss the speculations, announcing during this year's San Diego Comic Con that the show's third run would start airing by the end of 2016.
Cinema Blend has reported that season 3 turned out to be more challenging than the two previous seasons, which could account for the seeming premiere delay. The series is known for its improvised scripts, but Harmon said things are not as easy in this third offering.
"I watched the thumbnail animation of Episode 304 and I was ready to move forward with it and Ryan[Ridley] said 'we're not satisfied with it' and we were already behind schedule. [The animators] have to bear the brunt of the schedule, they have to work weekends," said Harmon.
For the benefit of fans, "Rick and Morty" goes by the "retroscripting" process. Here, the voice actors are given a rough outline of the show. Then, the animators put together seasons that the voice actors improvise. The creators did just so with the improv four-minute mini episode depicting events that fans should look forward to in season 3. Check it out below.
The mini episode titled "Summer's Future" focuses on Summer, Morty's sister who is voiced by Spencer Grammer. Her decision to attend college, as well as which college to apply in were tackled in the mini episode. It hinted of Morty's death, but Summer was assured that a replacement Morty has been found.
It is worth noting that at the end of the mini episode, Roiland hinted that there could be a "Rick and Morty" movie in the future, but that's all he was willing to say.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 is slated to air before the end of the year on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
