Jason Blossom's death might still be shrouded in mystery, but the future of "Riverdale" may have a little bit of clarity because it was just renewed for a second season by The CW.

The drama series only had average same-day ratings. However, it is one of the most streamed shows offered by The CW. It is currently second only to "Supernatural" as the most-watched non-superhero show on the television network.

"Riverdale" is the first new show on The CW that was announced for renewal. The network already previously announced that it will be picking up some of its longer-running shows, such as other comic book-based "Arrow," "The Flash," Supergirl," and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," as well as "Supernatural," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and "Jane the Virgin."

"Riverdale" features a dark take on the characters of the comic books it was based on, with season 1 opening with the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of one of its teens. Nonetheless, it was well-received by fans and critics alike ever since it debuted in January. The main cast members of the show are KJ Apa as Archie Andrew, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, and Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy.

The upcoming episode will focus on the relationship between Jughead and his father (Trevor Stines), who will have an altercation with Fred (Luke Perry), Archie's dad. The storyline will also pick up on the estrangement between Veronica and her mother (Marisol Nichols) after their fight in the previous episode. Betty will also be receiving an unexpected offer from Cheryl. Meanwhile, Polly (Tiera Skovbye), her sister, who is currently pregnant with Jason Blossom's child, will find her way back to "Riverdale." The episode titled "In a Lonely Place" is the seventh episode of the series, and it will air on March 9, Thursday, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
