The TV adaptation of the Archie Comics, titled "Riverdale," written and developed by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, will soon premiere on The CW. Meanwhile, the series has taken a dark tone, featuring murder, mystery, and incest in its storyline.

According to Deadline, chief creative officer and creator of the Archie Comics has developed the fun and quirky comic series into a TV adaptation series titled "Riverdale," which is set to premiere on Jan. 26 on The CW.

The series will be taking a dark and gloomy tone, but Riverdale's favorite gang from the comics will still be the main characters of the show.

Redhead Archie Andrews will be portrayed by K.J. Apa, Cole Sprouse portrays Jughead Jones, Camilla Mendes plays Veronica Lodge, and the sweet Betty Cooper is portrayed by Lili Reinhart.

The series premiere will open with queen bee Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and her mourning over the tragic death of her twin brother.

Aside from this, it will feature Archie and his complicated life and how it intertwines with his friends in Riverdale.

The first episode is titled "The River's Edge," and the synopsis posted The Futon Critic reads, "Archie Andrews is still the all-American teen, but the summer's events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music - not follow in his dad Fred's (Luke Perry) footsteps - despite his forbidden relationship with Riverdale's young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel)."

Archie will need to look for a new mentor, which might be Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), and at the same time, he will try to win back his old pal Jughead after damaging their friendship.

On the other hand, Betty will be trying to confess her feelings of love to Archie. But a newcomer in Riverdale — Veronica — will have an instant spark with Archie, pushing Betty out of the picture.

"Riverdale" will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
