'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' release date and news: Edwards hires Michael Giacchino as composer
A lot of fans were worried when it was reported that Gareth Edwards' "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was getting some "expensive" reshoots. Rumors said that the reason for which was because the movie was too dark and not what Lucasfilm had in mind for a "Star Wars" film. The reshoots have continued to affect the production, and the movie is said to have changed its score composer to Michael Giacchino.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the initial choice for composer was Alexandre Desplat; Desplat has worked on big projects like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and Edwards' "Godzilla." Because of the reshoots undertaken by the production staff, Desplat's schedule could no longer accomodate the job.
Giacchino is a seasoned composer and he has worked on numerous Disney films like "Zootopia" and "Inside Out." Sci-fi fans may also recognize him as the composer of the new "Star Trek" films which were helmed by J.J. Abrams.
Giachinno even made a cameo appearance as a Stormtrooper in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" so viewers are assured that the composer is also a fan of the franchise.
As of now, Giachinno's next project is Marvel's "Doctor Strange" which comes out this November. Scoring the film is usually the last step done during feature-length productions, and it is no doubt that the reshoots have forced the film to replace its composer.
In the meantime, new poster images of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) have been revealed on the "Star Wars" Twitter account. The first image has Jyn standing by herself on the shores of a tropical planet. The other poster has Jyn standing with the rest of the Rogue One Squadron as they try to sneak down the Imperial-looking hallway which fans saw in the first teaser.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hits theaters Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.
