Russell Moore prays for 'lost person' Donald Trump, who 'needs Jesus Christ'
Evangelical leader Russell Moore has shared his prayer for presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, whom Moore refers to as a "lost person" and someone in need of Jesus Christ.
"My primary prayer for Donald Trump is that he would first of all repent of sin and come to faith in Jesus Christ," Moore shared during an interview with The Brody File published Friday, June 3.
"That's my prayer for any lost person," he added.
The head of the Southern Baptist Convention's (SBC) Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission is an outspoken critic of Trump, and while he believes that people can change, in this case he stressed that it would be a "remarkable change."
Moore's prayer included Trump acting through the principles of justice while implying how the business tycoon turned politician is able to change the people and his supporters' moral characters.
He also didn't forget to include Hillary Clinton in his prayer whom he described as "someone who has a different set of problems and issues."
Moore and Trump have graced the social media with their public exchange of tirades in the previous months.
"Russell Moore is truly a terrible representative of Evangelicals and all of the good they stand for. A nasty guy with no heart!" Trump tweeted on May 9 after Moore wrote an op-ed for the New York Times.
The attacks coming from both sides have exposed divisions within the Evangelical community.
"Russell Moore has launched numerous vitriolic attacks not only against Trump's policies but about his own character and integrity," South Baptist Pastor Robert Jeffress told Time.
Jeffress added that Moore may be a respected leader in the Southern Baptist Convention but he is not representative of all Southern Baptists. He also believes that not many people agree with Moore's attacks against Trump.
In a 2011 interview, Trump claimed to be a Presbyterian Christian. He has also put in a good word for Evangelical leaders Tony Perkins and Ralph Reed in a separate interview with CBN News.
