The five-year-old "goddaughter" of famed NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has reportedly passed away after battling lymphoblastic leukemia while at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Wilson, who serves as the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, shared his sympathy via social media Thursday after learning that five-year-old Ailynn Arredondo had passed away from her disease.

While Wilson had been visiting the child at the Seattle hospital since February, she had just this week asked the famed NFL quarterback to be her godfather, a request that Wilson accepted.

The well-known quarterback shared a photo of himself with Arredondo earlier this week announcing that he had accepted her request to serve as her godfather.

On Wednesday, Wilson shared a photo of himself, Arredondo and Wilson's girlfriend Ciara with the caption: "My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to my goddaughter, Ailynn, and her family, as she is now with our Heavenly Father. I know you'll be swinging your 12 flag over Centurylink this Sunday sweetie."

Singer Ciara also posted a heartfelt farewell to the young cancer patient on social media, writing "Ailynn... The First Time @DangeRussWilson and I Met You At @SeattleChildrens, Our Hearts Lit Up!.. I Said, Look At That Little Supermodel! ...You Had Your Cute Little Outfit On, And Your Big Bright Beautiful Smile Was Shining!! Your Light Shined So Bright, It Was As As If You Turned The Hospital Floor Into A Catwalk... Right Now, I Shed Tears... Some Sad, But Mostly Tears Of Joy... One Knowing That I Was Able To Meet One Of The Coolest and Toughest Girls To Walk The Earth!" Ciara wrote.

"I Can Also Be At Peace Knowing Heaven Is Welcoming One Of The Sweetest Angels and You Won't Have To Suffer Anymore. You Will Truly Be Missed. Praying For Your Beautiful Sweet Family As Well. #RIPAilynn Love Ciara," the famed R&B artist added.
