The South Carolina man who allegedly survived 66 days on the open ocean is crediting his survival to the Bible and his belief in God.

Amateur sailor Louis Jordan went missing from the marina in Conway, South Carolina in late January when he departed to go on a brief fishing trip. The 37-year-old was reported missing six days later, and just last week a German ship spotted him sitting atop his overturned sailboat some 200 miles off North Carolina's coast.

Jordan has told reporters that his boat overturned shortly after he departed on his fishing trip, and he was force to survive off of rain water and raw fish for the 66 days he was allegedly lost at sea. The sailor also reportedly lost over 50 pounds when his collection of canned food was used up.

The 37-year-old told the Daily Mail that he attributes his ability to survive to the Bible and his belief in God. Jordan reportedly read the during his time out at sea.

Jordan told the media outlet that he survived through "lots of prayer" and reading End Time Prophecies.

Some skeptics have questioned Jordan's tale of being lost out at sea, arguing that the amateur sailor appeared too healthy to have been stranded in the ocean for 66 days.

"For him to be in his current state was pretty amazing," Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Kyle McCollum told CBS News.

"You would expect sunburn, severe sunburn, blisters maybe, a bunch of medical issues that could possibly be wrong with him," McCollum, who helped rescue Jordan, added.

As Jordan told the Daily Mail, he stands by his claims of survival.

"I don't mind being criticized. To paraphrase the Bible – fools hate to be criticized but wise men love to be criticized."
