Sacramento Kings trade rumors: Rudy Gay is a trade target for Houston Rockets
Easily one of the most talked about players during the off-season, Rudy Gay appeared to be on the outs with the Sacramento Kings even before the season started.
However, circumstances were such that Gay still found himself in a Kings uniform for the official tip-off of the 2016-17 campaign. While most would hang their heads knowing that they are likely to be traded, Gay still remained positive and is one of the reasons the Kings have won as many games as they have.
In 11 games with the Kings this year, Gay has averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. His average in points is actually his highest to date, with 21.1 points per game being the closest in his career back in the 2014-15 season.
Despite all these, rumors are still swirling of Gay possibly moving out of the Kings sooner rather than later.
It appears that the Houston Rockets are looking to add the small forward in the lineup to help them regain momentum and return to the elite in the Western Conference.
At the moment, the Rockets are relying on James Harden and Trevor Ariza for the bulk of their scoring. However, if Gay is added, he will definitely be a focal point in the team's offense, while also being a catalyst on the defensive end.
Gay is now 30 years old and is in the peak of his playing career. His contract only extends until the next season and he has a player option for that, so expect the Kings to try and deal him this year instead of waiting for him to opt out of his contract and move to another team with the Kings not getting anything in return.
Expect more news in the coming days and as the new calendar year comes with teams now positioning themselves for a mid-season run.
